At the age of six I began studying the martial arts, a process which I continue to this day. Throughout the first six years in these arts I achieved seven belts and studied Tae Kwon Do, Kempo, and Jeet Kune Do.
When I was about seven years old I was introduced to the music world through piano, which I studied over the following eleven years. At the age of nine I joined a local choral group and performed over the following ten years as soprano, alto, and eventually baritone. I was trained formally in music theory during this time, and reached college level proficiency by the age of eleven.
During this period I also began taking courses at local community colleges and universities (such as UCLA) covering a broad range of topics including stop motion animation, speed reading, film, and mathematics. When not performing or practicing with my choir I could generally be found wielding a camera and making movies.
Some of the highlights of my singing career were performing on the Tonight Show (NBC), singing at John Tesh's wedding, receiving multiple awards, working on several Hollywood films, and recording a couple of albums under the production of John Tesh.
During this period in my life I was also exposed to painting and drawing. When I was fifteen I received an award for a painting I had completed which demonstrated a collision of several different artistic styles. This painting was displayed in the Dee Young Museum in San Francisco.
A year later, at the age of sixteen, I received my first computer - a Dell Optiplex 133 MHz machine. Inspired by the complexity of the system, I began reading textbooks and taking math courses at a local community college while finishing up high school. Soon I began programming and decided to develop a 3D engine, which later became Shrine 3D.
After graduating from highschool I attended the University of California in Irvine. During this time I dedicated virtually all of my time to studying graphics and game development. After countless sleepless nights of programming, over a hundred and fifty textbooks consumed in research, and gallons of Pepsi, I completed my third 3D game engine, Vision.
During this time I also founded several software development corporations including Gameladder Networks and Ardent Entertainment, and taught an offsite course in vector calculus for students at my university.
In 2004 I joined Microsoft as a member of the Xbox graphics team. I have worked on a wide range of Xbox related products over the years including the original Xbox, the Xbox 360, several xbox games, Project Natal, and more. My work has entertained me immensely as it affords me a perfect arena to blend my passions for art and science.
In my spare time I enjoy working out, rock climbing, sailing, piano, guitar, travel, learning new languages, and cooking (among lots of other things).
